Kayakers, rowers, and canoeists, it’s time again to strap on your PFDs and join Friends of Merrymeeting Bay for their eighth and final outing of the summer season on Saturday, September 26 from 7am- 9am. Led by Anne Hammond, the paddle will depart Butler Cove in N. Bath offering gorgeous vistas of Merrymeeting Bay on the way to Bird Island, the largest in a series of ledges extending from Brick Island in the middle of Merrymeeting Bay.  Bird Island itself is a magnificent place to see birds of many species, including eagles, cormorants, song sparrows, yellow throats and warblers. Time permitting; the tour will include a trip to Brick Island and possibly Sturgeon Island as well. All are welcome—intermediate paddling skills, boat, PFD and a love of nature, are the only requirements. Paddlers will meet in North Bath’s Butler Cove. Come rain or shine. Pre-registration required. To register, contact Anne Hammond at 442-8535
